It’s that time of year! The leaves are changing to beautiful reds and sparkling golds, the morning air has that nippy little chill while the sun warms us throughout the day. Trespass Music makes it’s annual trek into the Catskill Mountains of Upstate NY to NERFA ~ Northeast Regional Folk Alliance, where old friends meet and new friends are made.
NERFA is held Thursday, November 13 to Sunday, November 16 at the Hudson Valley Spa & Resort. Music flows from the lobby to the stairwells, wafting into every corridor, while soaring harmonies float through decked out hotel rooms. Tricks of the trade and wisdom of the elders is shared through workshops, and wares are displayed in the exhibit hall. Relationships are forged, giving and sharing enjoyed at delicious meals while long nights turn into early morning rising and 3-4 hours of sleep if you are lucky!

Many from the folk community will arrive at NERFA on Thursday. The highlight of the evening is the ever popular Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ Showcase. For several years she was one of the coordinators of the annual NERFA Folk DJ Showcase, and following her sudden passing August 8 2009, that event was renamed the Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ Showcase in her honor and memory.
Trespass Radio Client Mike Laureanno will be presented by WAMC’s host of The Hudson River Sampler – Wanda Fischer. Wanda’s show airs in Albany, NY. “Borrello’s singing hints of the desperation like that of Dylan and Springsteen (with a better voice).”
Steve Ide – Folk, Bluegrass, and Traditional Music Blog

2009 NERFA Formal Showcase Artist Danielle Miraglia returns to NERFA this year with a sneak preview of her upcoming album “Glory Junkies.” Danielle is closer to her musical roots than ever on this one which combines classic rock, blues and soul. The rich songwriting that has made Miraglia a stand out is also evident throughout “Glory Junkies,” along with a new level of musicianship.
Alternate Root says “Danielle Miraglia’s guitar work keeps Delta traditions alive. Her steady thumb and playing style trace a direct line to the blues of the field and chicken shacks. Vocally, Danielle’s voice digs in, twisting within the delivery, seeming to break but more likely soaring before the fall.”
