No Depression Review
Jacob’s album “One-Take Jake” is filled with crystalline, pyrotechnical guitar playing but he has infused his performance with personality. It runs right down his arms into his fingers, onto the strings — missing not a grain of warmth and meticulous guitar-spirit.
The guitar is not just an instrument in the hands of Jacob Johnson – it’s his soul-mate.
His original songs are wonderfully performed and sound as if we may have heard them before. Then, in an effort to confirm his ability to interpret he whips out a Johnny Cash tune: “Big River” and virtually reinvents the song.

Named a 2014 Year End Favorites by Kelly Walker, host of The Sundilla Music Radio Hour on Troy Public Radio in Auburn, AL

Johnson sounds like Norman Rockwell paintings and the open road. He is a virtuoso, expressing a working comprehension of dozens of techniques and styles. He has blended and blurred the lines of genres to craft a sound he calls ‘Neo-Acoustic Folk/Funk’ .” – The Florence Morning News (Florence, SC)

Marc Douglas Berardo is the kind of hard working, fast moving, adventure seeking, keen observer who lives for the story and the song.In what amounts to song length works of fiction, Berardo’s sharply drawn portraits cast a net on unusual and beguiling characters and places. With a painter’s eye for detail, and music firmly rooted in the great American sound, Berardo sings about circus retirees, expatriates in Florida rum bars, union iron workers, old poets, aimless New York City debutantes, near death car crashes, hard nosed fishermen and of course, the changes that experience brings to everyone. He does this “simply and well” with what Rambles Cultural Magazine calls: “careful images and great tunes.”

WELSH/SWEDISH DUO DAVID LLEWELLYN & IDA KRISTIN
Sharing an uplifting chemistry of intimate voices and interwoven guitars, their toe-to-toe debut album “Songs Around The Kitchen Table” captures the spur-of-the-moment freshness of a live performance.

SATKT_Cover_300dpi_CMYK1 Paired at a songwriting retreat in Sweden in 2008, Welshman David Llewellyn and Swedish Ida Kristin were presented with an afternoon to write a song about a couple sitting in a coffee shop, and discovered a magical connection that has transformed into a finely honed acoustic duo. The spark kindled by this fortuitous collaboration uniting these two acclaimed solo artists, has resulted in the release of their debut folk album, Songs Around The Kitchen Table – a beguiling toe-to-toe recording, infused with tenderness and intimacy.

From relaxed songwriting evenings spent around the kitchen table in David’s current home in Nashville TN, the 11-song sparsely scored acoustic album sparkles with seven of David & Ida’s fervent compositions and some well chosen covers.

405_cut2_300dpi The classic love song “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Ewan MacColl – sung as a duet, showcases the heavenly blend and emotional depth of the duo’s voices. During the recording process, David and Ida stepped outside on the porch for an impromptu one-take video shoot of “59th Street Bridge Song” (Paul Simon), quickly garnering a lot of interest on YouTube. The closing song “Turn! Turn! Turn!” is a loving homage to one of the great folk singer-songwriters of the 60′s - Pete Seeger.

2009 NERFA Formal Showcase Artist Danielle Miraglia returns to NERFA this year with a sneak preview of her upcoming album “Glory Junkies.” Danielle is closer to her musical roots than ever on this one which combines classic rock, blues and soul. Alternate Root says “Danielle Miraglia’s guitar work keeps Delta traditions alive. Her steady thumb and playing style trace a direct line to the blues of the field and chicken shacks. Vocally, Danielle’s voice digs in, twisting within the delivery, seeming to break but more likely soaring before the fall.

Berardo’s fifth CD entitled WHALEBONE released in September, 2013 by Trespass Music is receiving rave reviews. Minor 7th’s Jamie Anderson remarks, “This soulful singer-songwriter with the gritty edge offers a solid collection of originals with an interesting look at life…John Apice, No Depression contributor applauds Whalebone with this superb review; “Whalebone is a highly polished personal collection in the tradition of many clever songwriters of the past that forged songs like short stories. These songs are on the delicate trapeze of poignancy with suave rhythms, cool as an icy summer drink back-up vocals, lots of presence and personality. While Italy’s Remo Ricaldone, The Long Journey Magazine raves “Whalebone is a confirmation of a true talent and an amazing artist.

Whalebone is a supremely crafted collection of songs about change, reemergence, strength and survival with goose bump inducing lyrics and melodies, rich Beach Boy harmonies and masterful musicianship in the great American songwriting style. Recorded in NYC, Woodstock, NY and rural Connecticut, Whalebone is produced by Brother Chris Berardo (Chris Berardo and The DesBerardos) guests include Jon Pousette Dart (Pousette-Dart Band), Abbie Gardner (RED MOLLY), Lincoln Schleifer (Donald Fagen, Rosanne Cash, Richard Shindell) among a stunning cast of others.

MDB says, “I try to write about people and situations that interest and entertain me. Subjects and places that I feel a connection with and that are unique in a quiet way. Real people and places caught in the moment, almost like a documentary film or a novel. At the same time, I need the music itself to take me somewhere…to make me feel something. The words have to sing and the music has to work. The kind of song that does those things is my idea of a good time.

Berardo performs an average of 150 nights a year everywhere from bars and coffeehouses to theaters and national festivals. Places such as the legendary Town Crier Cafe (NY), Narrows Center for the Arts (MA), The Fairfield Performing Arts Center (CT), Snapple Sunset Concert Series (RI), Cafe Lena and Living Room (NY), Hudson River Museum (NY), Anderson Fair (TX), Fiddler’s Dream (AZ), The Bluebird (TN) and St Anne’s Chapel in Vatican City, Italy. In recent years Marc has participated in several well regarded song and performance excursions in exotic locations including Costa Rica, Islamorada and Bimini, Bahamas. Along the way he has shared the stage with a variety of national acts including The Doobie Brothers, Peter Rowan, NRBQ, Guy Clark, Vassar Clements, Ralph Stanley, blues legend Chris Smither, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members The Buffalo Springfield, Brooks Williams, Amy Speace, Buddy Mondlock, Norman Blake (Oh Brother Soundtrack), Steve Forbert, Mustard’s Retreat, Eric Anderson, The New Riders of the Purple Sage, Red Molly, Garnet Rogers, Greg Trooper, Cliff Eberhardt, Cheryl Wheeler, Livingston Taylor, Catie Curtis, Kate Taylor, The Pousette Dart Band, Kevin Welch, The Kennedy’s and John Haitt among others. Marc Douglas Berardo Finalist in Wildflower Arts and Music Festival Songwriter Competition

Trespass Music is thrilled to announce Marc Douglas Berardo ~ Writer, Player, Keen Observer, Performer and Funny Man has been chosen as a finalist in the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival Songwriter Competition with two songs from his current album “Whalebone.” The 10 finalists, chosen from over 250 entries, will complete for four $500 cash prizes, including the Michael Terry People’s Choice Award.
Berardo remarked, “I am very honored (as well as “primed” and “stoked”) to be a finalist in the 2014 Wildflower Art and Music Festival in Richardson, TX, May 16-18.
When you make up songs, this kind of recognition gives you the fuel to carry on. I was at Wildflower in 2006. Glad to be asked again. It might even feel like a comeback.

He does this “simply and well” with what Rambles Cultural Magazine calls: “careful images and great tunes.Marc Douglas Berardo Photo by Terry Georgia

Berardo’s fifth CD entitled WHALEBONE released in September, 2013 by Trespass Music is received rave reviews.
