About
Marc Douglas Berardo is the kind of hard working, fast moving, adventure seeking, keen observer who lives for the story and the song. In what amounts to song length works of fiction, Berardo’s sharply drawn portraits cast a net on unusual and beguiling characters and places. With a painter’s eye for detail, and music firmly rooted in the great American sound, Berardo sings about circus retirees, expatriates in Florida rum bars, union iron workers, old poets, aimless New York City debutantes, near death car crashes, hard nosed fishermen and of course, the changes that experience brings to everyone. He does this “simply and well” with what Rambles Cultural Magazine calls: “careful images and great tunes.”
Based in the port town of Westerly, Rhode Island, Marc performs his made up songs on an average of 150 nights a year everywhere from bars and house concerts to theaters and national festivals. As a sometime member of The DesBerardo Band with his brother Chris, Marc has been a part of shows with classic rock acts including Little Feat, The Marshall Tucker Band, Levon Helm, The Doobie Brothers, David Allen Coe and others.
Quotes
“Berardo sounds like a fishing-town Bruce Springsteen (in Nebraska mode), a soft-toned Don Henley, or a James Taylor with a literary side. The comparisons to singer-songwriter greats are infinite. They’re also apt.”-Fairfield County Weekly, CT.
“Our talented Westerly songwriter, Marc Douglas Berardo writes stunning, sharply drawn Americana portrait-like stories that are excellent.” -Jim Vickers-Motif Magazine, Providence, RI
“Perhaps the track Where the Road Turns to Shell and Sand tells us why and how Berardo got to where he is. This is an explanation in tone poem, supported by strings and French horn in an orchestral splendor of sorts. Hollywood could make a movie based on this song alone (and if they did it right, it would be a damn good one). The album is peppered with excellent reflective songs. Harbor, with it’s light plucked acoustic guitar and voice create a sort of morning dream, quiet and floating. A few listens to Harbor might have you wondering if the praise is high enough.” – Frank Gutch Jr.- FAME-The Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange.
“Marc Douglas Berardo is a talented Westerly acoustic artist whose material concentrates on the sea and its allure with strong melodies and a memorable voice.” -The Boston Phoenix.
