Rhode Island based Marc Douglas Berardo is a hardworking, fast moving, adventure seeking, keen observer who lives for the story and the song. He has been recognized nationally for his music and performances (Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Song contest, Telluride Troubadour Contest, Sisters Folk Festival, 2013 Rams Head Onstage Rammie for Show of the Year.) No Depression Magazine called his latest CD Whalebone: “a highly polished personal collection with songs that are on the delicate trapeze of poignancy.”

With a gift for powerful lyrics and haunting melodies as well as a laid back and disarming stage presence, Berardo performs his made up songs on an average of 150 nights a year everywhere from bars and house concerts to theaters and national festivals. In the past year he has shared the stage with folk, rock and acoustic heavyweights including The Doobie Brothers, Cheryl Wheeler, Red Molly, John Haitt, Chuck Brodsky, The Pousette Dart Band, Lucy Kaplansky and Livingston Taylor. As a sometime member of The DesBerardo Band with his brother Chris, Marc has been a part of shows with classic rock acts with legendary bands Little Feat, The Marshall Tucker Band, Levon Helm, America, David Allen
Coe, Reckless Kelly and others. When not playing his songs all over the place, MDB lives in a heavily secluded and fortified compound on a river near the ocean in Westerly, RI.

“Marc Douglas Berardo’s newest CD WHALEBONE, will surely turn new fans on to his music. Berardo’s songs are musical narratives with the feel of acoustic Springsteen and Tom Waits, with Buffet-eque subjects. You will want to own this one.”-The Roots Report, Motif Magazine.

“Whalebone is a highly polished personal collection in the tradition of many clever songwriters of the past that forged songs like short stories. These songs are on the delicate trapeze of poignancy with suave rhythms, cool as an icy summer drink back-up vocals, lots of presence and personality. A little water with the whiskey so to speak — but, not watered down. No, not watered-down at all. The performances are sincere, fluid, charming and above all gripping.”-John Apice-No Depression Magazine.

“Whalebone is a confirmation of a true talent and an amazing artist.”-Remo Ricaldone, The Long Journey Magazine, Italy.

“This soulful singer-songwriter with the gritty edge offers a solid collection of originals with an interesting look at life, from ruminations about a relationship (“Our Troubles”) to a poignant story about a counter-culture character named “Lightning,” always with his acoustic guitar at the center and a full band on these rock/folk songs.”-Jamie Anderson-Minor Seventh Online.

“Berardo has a magical way of bringing you into the story. You don’t want the song to end.”-Jane Falvey, Host, Kingston Coffeehouse, WRIU-FM.

“Berardo sounds like a fishing-town Bruce Springsteen (in Nebraska mode), a soft-toned Don Henley, or a James Taylor with a literary side. The comparisons to singer-songwriter greats are infinite. They’re also apt.”-Fairfield County Weekly, CT.

“Our talented Westerly songwriter, Marc Douglas Berardo writes stunning, sharply drawn Americana portrait-like stories that are excellent.” -Jim Vickers-Motif Magazine, Providence, RI

“Perhaps the track Where the Road Turns to Shell and Sand tells us why and how Berardo got to where he is. This is an explanation in tone poem, supported by strings and French horn in an orchestral splendor of sorts. Hollywood could make a movie based on this song alone (and if they did it right, it would be a damn good one). The album is peppered with excellent reflective songs. Harbor, with it’s light plucked acoustic guitar and voice create a sort of morning dream, quiet and floating. A few listens to Harbor might have you wondering if the praise is high enough.” – Frank Gutch Jr.- FAME-The Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange.

“Marc Douglas Berardo is a talented Westerly acoustic artist whose material concentrates on the sea and its allure with strong melodies and a memorable voice.” -The Boston Phoenix.
