REVIEW BY ROOTSTIME ~ BELGIUM
“Terry Burns and Ron Kristy came together for the first time at a party that took place eight years ago at a mutual friends in Nashville, Tennessee. They enjoyed singing together at Ron’s request and the singing duo Burns & Kristy began. Shortly after Ron Kristy made a second request to Terry Burns to tie the knot and he also received a positive response.
Since then, the couple established their name in the music capital of Nashville country, even after moving to New York where 7 years ago they were able to welcome their first child. Their long cherished dream to create a CD of their own, became reality this year with the twelve-track CD “Caravan“.
On it are mostly original compositions, but also some clever cover versions of songs that they both are happy to have heard. As in “Peace In My Heart” from country singer Kim Parent from her CD “When Love Was Just A Word” from 2004. Or Julie Miller’s wonderful song “All My Tears” that she and her husband brought Buddy, but also made memorable by Emmylou Harris. We also enjoy two famous songs with “Love Song” by Lesley Duncan from her album “Sing Children Sing” from 1971 and the more recent “Standing Like A Tree” by Betsy Rose from her album “In My Two Hands” from 2011.
But the eight songs that Terry Burns and / or Ron Kristy wrote themselves are not out of place between all those other songs. Both are also songwriters who in the past a have written many songs for other country artists, and also wrote music for the soundtrack of films and television.
From their own compositions on this album we enjoy the opening track “Blue Paper Boat” about saying goodbye, the title track and single “Caravan” (see video), the religiously inspired “I Hear God In You”, the memories of a former lover retrieving “Seventeen Again” and the uptempo song “Runaway Train”.”
